The day, step by step

Over the Forth
Leave Edinburgh across the Forth Bridge and head east through the Kingdom of Fife to the East Neuk coast.
The East Neuk villages
Stop in Anstruther, home of the Scottish Fisheries Museum, then on through Pittenweem, St Monans and Crail: old harbour towns that grew rich on trade with Europe.
St Andrews
Arrive in time for lunch, with 2 to 3 hours to explore: Scotland's oldest university (where Prince William met Kate), the cathedral ruins, the famous golf course and the cobbled medieval streets.
South Queensferry
A final stop in the village beneath the Forth bridges before the drive back to Edinburgh.
